Alberta's Kevin Martin maintained his perfect record at the Tim Hortons Brier with a 7-4 win over defending champion Glenn Howard of Ontario on Thursday morning.
Martin, now 10-0, picked up two in the sixth, three in the eighth and another in the ninth to secure the win over Howard, who fell to third at 8-2.
Saskatchewan's Pat Simmons is 8-1 and plays later Thursday.
Newfoundland & Labrador skip Brad Gushue, meanwhile, kept his playoff hopes alive with a 9-7 win over New Brunswick's James Grattan (2-8)
Gushue is tied for fourth at 6-4 with B.C.'s Bob Ursel, a 6-3 winner over Peter Gallant of Prince Edward Island.
Brian Rafuse of Nova Scotia edged Chad Cowan of Yukon/Northwest Territories 8-7 in the other morning draw match.
