Members of the Ted Russell family will reunite Friday to honour the well-known writer, teacher, magistrate and politician - and celebrate his birthday.
A ceremony will take place at the Bay Roberts Visitors' Pavilion at 4:30 p.m. on Friday to officially launch the town's "Pigeon Inlet Project."
The vision of this project is that the town of Bay Roberts will be the place where the province celebrates its past through cultural experiences, tradition, values and humour - all of which are illustrated in Russell's writings.
The main section of the Bay Roberts Visitors' Pavilion will also be named the "Holdin' Ground," in honour of Russell's play.
Family members of Ted Russell will be travelling from Florida, Idaho and Labrador to celebrate their father's legacy Friday.
Following the ceremonies, residents and visitors are invited to an evening of Pigeon Inlet stories, songs and dance with Ted Russell's son Kelly Russell and members of the group, Figgy Duff. The concert will take place at Ascension Collegiate at 7:30 p.m.
