Firefighters in St. John's said they were tired after battling their third fire in 18 hours Sunday afternoon.
The house on the corner or Richmond and MaKay Streets in the downtown area of St. John's had smoke pouring out windows and doors on all three floors when firefighters arrived shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday.
Firefighters found fire in the basement and tore out an exterior wall of the house chasing flames, said St. John's Regional Fire Department Supt. Jerry Peach watching activity in the house from the sidewalk across the street.
He said he doesn't believe anyone was inside at the time the fire broke out and no one was injured.
The family home was extensively damaged.
Police were also on the scene trying to keep a dozen or so kids back from the house. An investigation has been started into the cause of the fire.
