A Biscay Bay man has been charged following a car accident that killed another man last evening.
Ronald Daniel Ryan, 38, looked tired as he limped into provincial court this morning wearing white, plastic, police-issue coveralls. He was charged with impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, refusing the breathalyzer and dangerous driving.
Police responded to a call about a single-vehicle accident on Route 10 in Portugal Cove South around 4 p.m. Saturday.
The driver had fled the area and a 66-year-old man was found dead when police arrived. The man had been a passenger in the car.
After a short time officers found and arrested Ryan.
The Crown deliberated heavily whether or not to release Ryan from custody, but finally decided to let him go on a $2,000 cash recognizance with strict conditions including a curfew.
Ryan has been ordered to appear in provincial court in St. John's again on Dec. 4.
