Tall task facing Sea-Hawks' volleyballers when they tangle with Tigers

Dalhousie University men's volleyball team has a big height advantage over Memorial Sea-Hawks and you have to look way up to make eye contact with Dal's tallest Tiger - six-foot-10 Max Burt from Gander.

Dalhousie, which has won 22 straight Atlantic Universities Sport (AUS) titles, will be a heavy favourite heading into the weekend.

Dalhousie University men's volleyball team has a big height advantage over Memorial Sea-Hawks and you have to look way up to make eye contact with Dal's tallest Tiger - six-foot-10 Max Burt from Gander.

Dalhousie, which has won 22 straight Atlantic Universities Sport (AUS) titles, will be a heavy favourite heading into the weekend.

The Tigers have eight players on their roster over six-foot-four in height. By comparison, the Sea-Hawks, winless in 14 matches this season, have only one player taller than six-four.

Burt leads the AUS in hitting percentage and blocks per game. The 20-year-old, who was Newfoundland and Labrador's male high school athlete of the year in 2006, is also the first Newfoundlander to be named to the Canadian beach volleyball team.

The Sea-Hawks' final games of the season are set for 8 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Saturday at the Field House.

Memorial's Adam Gilbert will be playing in his final matches of his varsity career this weekend. Gilbert, a native of Cupids, leads the team and conference in points and kills.

Women's volleyball

The MUN women take on Dalhousie 6 p.m. today and noon Saturday at the Field House. The matches will be the final home games of the season for the Sea-Hawks.

MUN (5-11) ranked sixth in the conference behind the fifth-place Tigers (6-10), is led by Sasha Wilkins who is third in AUS in kills and points-per-game.

Wrestling

The men's and women's wrestling teams will be heading to New Brunswick for the UNB Open, which will see them competing against grapplers from Concordia, McGill and the host Varsity Reds

On the women's side, Carla Bryant, Janelle Pike, Victoria Ralph, Kathleen Price and Alisha Gainforth will be competing for the Sea-Hawks. The men's team includes Matthew Kippenhuck, Adam Coady and Matthew Hill.
