A polar bear that spent the night near the St. Barbe dump has been captured and moved.

RCMP in Flowers Cove, after receiving a report that the polar bear was in the dump Saturday morning, notified Wildlife officials, who were unable to find it. They set up a trap at the site, hoping the bear would return, but it didn't.

Wildlife officers eventually found the bear, and monitored it overnight. Sunday morning, the bear was tranquilized and a helicopter was used to take it to Belle Isle, where it was later released.

The RCMP and Wildlife Services are advising the public to contact police at 1-800-709-7267 if they see another polar bear.

I had a close call with a moose in the woods yesterday. I wouldn't want to meet a polar bear. Gulp.
