As part of the schedule of events for Police Week 2009, and as the holiday weekend approaches, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says there will be several roadside checkpoints carried out in the coming days.

On Thursday, the RNC in partnership with MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers), AVTRAC (Avalon Trailway Corporation) and Conception Bay South/Paradise community cased policing committee will carry out a series of traffic checkpoints.

In the days following and throughout the coming weekend, the RNC will carry out further traffic checkpoints in the North East Avalon, Corner Brook and Labrador West areas.

The purpose of these checkpoints is to ensure compliance of the Highway Traffic Act and to check the sobriety of drivers.
