Nineteen-year-old Rebecca Drover made her first appearance in court this
morning on one charge of dangerous driving causing death and two charges of
dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
On Dec. 18, Drover was behind the wheel of a west-bound car on the TCH near
Goobies. The car collided with a pick-up truck, killing 20-year old
passenger Amanda Forward. A second passenger in Drover's car, and the driver
of the truck, were both injured.
Moments before the accident Forward sent text messages to a family member
that mentioned Drover's driving.
"We can't get into the exact specifics of it. We don't want to compromise
the pending trial. But she texted concerns about the driving and that was
the gist of the text messages that were sent to a family member, that she
had serious concerns about the driving," RCMP Sgt. Wayne Newell said in May,
when the charges were laid.
Drover will next appear in court Aug. 5 to elect whether to have her case
heard by a judge in provincial court, or by judge and jury in Supreme Court.
