An American military Hercules C-130 aircraft landed safely at St. John's International Airport a short time ago after reporting trouble with its landing gear.
The Hercules had taken off from the airport in St. John's earlier this morning and after about an hour in the air, crewmembers realized there was a problem with the landing gear hydraulics, and the landing gear would not drop.
The crew attempted to manually engage the landing gear, however, that failed at the time.
Fire department and rescue vehicles, along with several police vehicles, scrambled to the airport where they were staged for a possible crash landing.
The crew, however, after working on the problem, were able release the landing gear and the Hercules landed without incident at the airport.
