The YMCA-YWCA building in St. John's has been sold to Killick Capital for $1.5 million.
The organization, which is moving into the new Ches Penney Family Y building at the corner of Ridge Road and Higgins Line in early 2011, will continue to use the building as a tenant until then.
Craig Rowe, the YMCA-YWCA chairman, said the sale will help the organization move forward with its capital campaign.
Mark Dobbin, president of Killick Capital, said the arrangement allows his company to make plans for the property while not causing an interruption in service for YMCA-YWCA programs.
As well, the building will now also be used by City Stars Basketball, a youth competitive and instructional basketball program.
City Stars owner Erica Coultas-Kennedy said her organization has been looking for a permanent home for some time and she's happy to find one in the Y building.
