Police were still looking for a suspect around The Village Shopping Centre Thursday night after an afternoon purse snatching downtown and a brief car chase.
The original crime happened around 3:15 p.m. Thursday on Water Street, a "robbery with violence" according to RNC Const. Paul Davis.
About an hour later the police spotted the suspect in a car near Cashin Avenue. After a brief car chase - where the suspect refused to stop and hit several parked cars - police backed off for fear of public safety.
A green Pontiac was found abandoned near The Village a short time later, with a side-view mirror broken off. Police were using a K-9 unit to try to find the man around the mall, and in a wooded area across Columbus Drive near the shopping centre.
As of press time, the suspect was still at large.

It seems to me when watching news reports, the RNC are as proud as can be when they display the cache of drugs they have taken of the street (which in time will be replaced). No other crime seems to bring out so much pride. Writing tickets is a close second. Call them concerning property damage and they tell you there's no use in coming by...basically a waste of time. The purpetraitor can't be caugt and brought to justice. As a concerned citizen I would like to assist our distinquished police force by suggesting they look for a guy carrying a purse.

Might be time to have people stop by the RNC with proper paper work for cars and trucks to be given a pretty little sticker each month to place inside the rear window that could be seen by anyone.
How many cars and trucks are on the roads not insured or registered. If this one was at least they would have the owner and an idea where to start looking.
I cringe each time I need to drive around town. You never know what uninsured unregistered crack head is going to ram into you. -
