Dr. Gary Kachanoski, internationally renowned academic and scholar, has been named Memorial University's next president and vice-chancellor by the university's Board of Regents.
The announcement was made today on behalf of the board by Robert Simmonds, chair of the board and chair of the university's Presidential Search Committee.
Born in Manitoba and raised in Saskatchewan, Kachanoski hails from Alberta where he most recently served as vice-president (research) with the University of Alberta.
"On behalf of the board and the entire Memorial University community, I am pleased to welcome Dr. Kachanoski to our great institution," Simmonds said.
"After a long and detailed process, we have found our next president; a man with foresight, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to lead Memorial into its future. The experience he has gained from holding senior academic and administrative positions in a university which has twice as many students as Memorial will be a tremendous asset for our university and our province."
Further updates to come.

It amazes me that not one person from Newfoundland and Labrador met the criteria..to have been chosen as the President of Mun..Why is it that we always look elsewhere..maybe in the next Provincial Election we should ask for candidates from other provinces!!!!!!

Not sure he should be announced as President until Joan Burke has finished her questioning him. Danny hurry home; things are falling apart.
