Orma South zone opens for caribou hunting in Labrador

The Department of Environment and Conservation advises the public that, effective immediately, the Orma South zone in Labrador is open for caribou hunting.
The department has received information that suggests the George River caribou herd has moved to this management area.
The George River herd is in the process of migrating southwards for the winter. Although there are some animals currently in the Orma North, Seal Lake and Grand Lake zones, the herd is still moving and the department cannot predict exactly where it will winter.
Wildlife staff and conservation officers will continue to monitor the movement of the George River caribou herd and additional areas may open pending movements of animals to those areas.
The department asks hunters to exercise caution and safety in their pursuits and also reminds hunters that it is illegal to dispose of caribou remains within 50 metres of the Trans-Labrador Highway or in an area visible to the motoring public.
