Whether it was opening solo for Ronnie Milsap, hosting her first show on Coast 101.1 FM or singing lead with Blue Eyed Blonde at Mile One, Placentia native Denielle Hann has been in the spotlight time and again in the past year.
Now Hann is working on her debut solo EP, planning to release the four-track collection on iTunes. She said the release is expected "at some point in the next year."
Originally from Dunville, a small community near Argentia, Hann said she has no problem being referred to as "Dunville's Denielle," something she noticed once in a news article about her band.
"As a kid, you always want to be the one the town remembers," Hann said with a laugh. "When I saw that ... it was just pride. I'm very proud to be from Dunville."
As an encouragement to youth arriving in the city, as she did "years ago," Hann said she helps to run the "Open Mic for Young Performers" at Shamrock City.
The regular show provides a public performance space for kids not yet of legal age.
As for her own stage time, the singer and songwriter has picked up credits in the last year, both solo and with dance pop cover band Blue Eyed Blonde. For example, she opened for Rick Springfield with Blue Eyed Blonde this past fall.
"We've been together eight years, and it amazes me that after eight years we still have wind in our sails and we still get great shows and we still get a great response," she said.
Hann said work on her debut solo release had slowed over the last 12 months, but it's now being kicked back into gear.
"It's going to have that country-folky feel," she said, "but four of those songs will soon be ready and I'll make them available on iTunes."
Currently, Hann's track "What Am I Supposed to Do?" can be heard on the compilation CD "Goin' Back Home."
The CD was produced by Quickstar Productions in Balti-more, Maryland.
