It has been dubbed "the ultimate VIP survival kit." The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and CTV will welcome presenters and performers for Sunday's 2010 Juno Awards broadcast with a special bag of goodies.
The bag includes donated products from at least 23 different companies.
It includes a Gaya collection handbag, Green and Black's Organic chocolate, BollÉ Serengeti sunglasses from Bushnell Outdoor Products and jewelery from The Butler Collection (to also be featured on ads during the Juno Awards broadcast).
There is also "Barefoot Venus Canada's most indulgent bath and beauty line that will have Canada's top musical talent glowing like musical gods," according to a news release from CARAS and CTV.
Add in exclusive-design hoodies, fitness classes, cosmetics and more.
The gift bag was assembled by The Mint Agency (www.themintagency.ca).
Adding local flare
Following the revelation of swag bag products, local businessman Geoff Meeker noticed there were no local products in the list.
"It was all nice stuff, but it was all national, high-end cosmetics," said Meeker.
So, he told The Telegram, he offered up his own product as a gift for the stars.
Meeker is the director and majority shareholder in Jelly Bean Row, a local company creating wall art pieces with designs based on real homes in the downtown St. John's.
"They replied within a couple of days and said 'yes,'" said Meeker, of the offering.
"They just said they really liked the product."
Now, 220 Jelly Bean Row pieces will be handed out, in pairs, to 110 special guests, presenters and performers as they arrive in St. John's.
All of the pieces are donated, said Meeker. "It's something of a cost, but with these things you don't know what could come from it."
Second set of gifts
from Ruckus on the Edge
Meanwhile, the organizers of Ruckus on the Edge have arranged for a second gift bag that includes multiple examples of local products.
For example, said LeeAnn Fleming of Newfoundland's I.C. Spa Products, samples of her company's Ossetra line of spa products are included.
For the Ruckus on the Edge gift pack, said Fleming, her company received a call in November about being involved. They also donated their products - made with iceberg water and ingredients such as seaweed, berries, mud and caplin caviar from the province.
"We did up 125 little bags to be included in the (larger) gift bags," said Fleming.
"With the celebrities and the different media and associations and people they deal with ... both Paul and myself thought it was a great way to get the Ossetra skin care line known across Canada."
The Ruckus on the Edge pack also includes samples of work from local musicians and products from Juno Awards broadcast sponsor Garnier.
