Finance Minister Tom Marshall, speaking to reporters at 3 p.m. at Confederation Building, agreed with the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association (NLMA) president Dr. Brendan Lewis that their meeting this morning was cordial.
That meeting included Health Minister Jerome Kennedy and NLMA executive director Rob Ritter.
Marshall said a date has been set for officials from both sides to negotiate. He wouldn't go into specifics.
Marshall also said the government ads - countering the NLMA's ads - will run their course and will not be renewed.
The doctors and government have been embroiled in a public feud over the contract talks for weeks. Today they agreed to keep negotiations private.
Government has offered an $80-million, four-year deal, but that was rejected this week by the NLMA, though physicians agreed to go back to the table.
