The summer trouting season for Zone 1 (insular Newfoundland) opens Saturday, May 15, and will remain open to Sept. 7, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans announced today.
Bag limits and possession limits for insular Newfoundland remain unchanged: daily bag limit for trout (includes speckled trout, brown trout, rainbow and Ouananiche) is 12 trout or five pounds (2.27 kg) + 1 trout, round weight (whichever limit is reached first of all species combined). Possession limit is twice the daily bag limit.
Special management areas opening on Saturday, May 15, include Indian Bay Watershed, Northwest Brook Watershed and Middle Brook Watershed.
Management measures for these areas remain in place.

In the past, ice-fishing/trouting season has opened until Easter, then closed until May 24 weekend! I can't seem to find out when the season opens and closes for 2013! Can anyone help please? Thanks!

NOTE from web editor: This article was published May 11, 2010 and does not apply to this year, thus the confusion in the last three comments posted. This year's trouting season opening dates, etc., are contained in a story in today's printed edition of The Telegram and has now been posted to the website.

Bag limit is per day. Possession limit is how many you can have per trip. If you go camping for three days, you can catch 12 per day but only permitted to possess 24 per person in total. It opens this Saturday the 14th - it's a typo. Hopes this helps.

really wish the season would open on the third saturday of may every year .it just makes more sense then the 15 .because the 15 could end up being in the middle of the week.

So does this mean that Newfoundlanders with a cosmopolitan, worldly viewpoints are not allowed to go trouting?
