Is this news? Did they plan on instituting a ban in years past or did they respond to circumstances as they arose? All this is saying is that they could impose a ban later if the need to do so arises.

Are they saying they planned the previous water bans ? Perhaps they were planned in the annual budget. Maybe they looked into their cystal ball and it foretold the future. I can see it now, the whole council sitting around the table facing a crystal ball in a dimly lit room, their faces illuminated by the glow. A deep and slow-speaking voice rings out in the 'chamber of empty minds'...

...'I the omnipotent one, proclaim that there shall not be a water ban to befall upon the good residents of St. John's this year.'

The article didn't mis-state the facts. It said the pond supplies the water for the entire regions, which is does. Did you want them to say except those using their own artisan or surface wells . Point of the comment in the article is that the pond supplies the water to everyone in those areas that uses the water, it doesn't need to say except those few who don't use it because of their own water means.

Mark, you clearly are not from Portugal Cove. If you were, you would know that 95% of the people here use wells as their water resource. The article states that Bay Bulls Big Pond provides the entire water supply for Mount Pearl, Paradise, Conception Bay South and Portugal Cove St. Philips, and the western section of St. Johns. This is not accurate due to the reason Kerry and I have already mentioned. Next time, get educated before you get mouthy. It makes you look less silly.

I fail to understand people who state false facts. Bay Bulls Big Pond does not supply the entire Portugal Cove/St. Phillips. I as well as many of my neighbours, and other residents of this town have our own wells. Be they artisan, or surface.

Wow, how much did this big announcement cost us. I bet there was wine. Every time Duff is on TV she is sucking down another glass of Vino, compliments of the good people of St. John's

Why are people getting so worked up over the statement of where the water is supplied.

As for Kerry, I fail to understand why you find it that upsetting that they failed to say except for those people using wells . People use their personal wells by choice. So they have stated everything correctly. Bay Bulls Big Pond Water does supply water to ever resident in these towns if they choose to have it. People aren't using wells because they have no other option, because they do.
There is no need to be so upset and offended by a simple article about water bans.

Last years water ban was a bit of a farce anyway. I mean, those automatic car washes waste SO much water, but were left in operation. And commercial nurseries could use the water. What's this... you allow businesses to quench their thirst and fill their wallets and not the average joe who'd like to fill a wading pool for his kids?

Why then is CBS under a permanent water ban?
