The town of Appleton is receiving $6,500 through the Community Capital Grant Program to support the construction of a regulation-sized, outdoor beach volleyball court.
"The construction of this court will enable six local volleyball teams - four school teams and two adult teams - to broaden their participation in this sport in an outdoor environment," Tourism Minister Terry French said. "The court will also be available to the public and provide all residents with an opportunity to be engaged in a fast-paced, physically demanding sport."
Appleton is among more than 30 communities throughout the province which will receive funding to purchase equipment and upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through the most recent allocation of $450,900 through the Community Capital Grant Program.

$6500 is worthy of a press release? I wonder how much that release cost to put together. Maybe it's time to strat looking at reducing the size of government's communications staff - clearly, they have too much time on their hands. Eliminating just one position alone would pay for 20 courts at $6500 a pop. How wasteful.

I guess hope springs eternal that the weather here will warm up a bit so that participants won't have to wear snow suits to play?? ha
