Update: RNC now say three died in early morning accident on Freshwater Road

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary now says three people died in an early morning accident on Freshwater Road in St. John's that involved a vehicle striking a utility pole.
An 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old female were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. The third occupant of the vehicle, a 35-year-old man, was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The accident occurred about 1:15 a.m. today on Freshwater Road, just east of Crosbie Road.
Freshwater Road, from Oxen Pond Road to Crosbie Road, remains closed at this hour while Newfoundland Power utility crews attempt to reinstate power to the area.
Next of kin have been notified and the RNC will provide more information during a media availability later today.
RNC traffic officers are continuing to investigate the collision.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information pertaining to this matter is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
