Central and West End Fire stations are responding to a fire at Patrick Street in St. John's.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke billowing from two adjoining houses, numbers 21 and 23.
Firefighters started to tackle the blaze from the roof in the rear of one of the houses.
Firefighters gained entry to the house by breaking a window. The windows on the top floor have also been broken in an attempt to gain access to the fire.
