Some quick-thinking bystanders helped save a woman who fell over a ledge at the Outer Battery this morning.
Crews with the rope access team of the St. John's Regional Fire Department were called to the walking trails on Signal Hill around 10:20 a.m. where they were told that a woman had fallen.
Supt. Keon Penney says the situation could have been much worse had it not been for other walkers that helped the woman.
"She just slipped and fell and was hanging in a very precarious position but it just so happened that there was a bystander right on scene that secured her and pulled her back up onto the ledge," he says.
Penney says he's not sure whether the woman was local or a tourist. She wasn't injured in the fall.
He says every year there are incidents like this one and that people should be cautious hen on the trails.
"If you're using the trails stay on the trails, the marked trails. Don't be venturing off, obey all the warning signs, don't get too close to the edges and always watch the weather."
