Clarence Sutton Memorial winds up Sunday in Grand Falls-Windsor
It will be the St. John’s division one champion Pennecon taking on the hometown team Donnini’s Sunday in the final of the Clarence Sutton Memorial provincial senior men’s basketball championship in Grand Falls-Windsor.
Both Pennecon and Donnini’s finished with 2-1 records in the four-team tourney, although Pennecon officially gained first place by virtue of a 72-67 win over the Grand Falls entry in round-robin play Saturday at the Exploits Valley High gym.
Two other St. John’s teams, Baker Sub-Trades Inc. and Cal Legrow, finished at 1-2 and will play in the bronze-medal contest at 9 a.m. Sunday morning. The gold-medal game is at 10:30 a.m. Both game are at the Exploits Valley school.
Cal Legrow had defeated Pennecon 80-78 on Saturday, and could have also finished 2-1 with a win over Baker in the last round-robin game, but lost a heartbreaker 94-93.
In Saturday’s other game, Donnini’s downed Baker 99-73.
