MUN Cinema Series Winter 2010, Thursdays at 7 p.m., Empire Studio 12, Avalon Mall. Regular season pass: $72, student/senior: $66. Regular 6-pass: $45, student/senior: $40. The films are open to the public and all tickets must be purchased at the Avalon Mall. The MUN Cinema sets up a table near the theatre food court about an hour before each MUN Cinema screening. The St. Andrews Society of Newfoundland and Labrador presents the 251st anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns at the annual Burns Supper Jan. 23, 7 p.m., at the Legion in Pleasantville. The Family History Society of Newfoundland and Labrador will hold a free public lecture at its office at 655 Topsail Rd. Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Heather Wareham who will speak on the virtual exhibits at the Maritime History Archive.

MUN Botanical Garden presents: "Botanical Boot Camp" winter educators workshop. An activity-based introduction to Newfoundland plants, ecology and conservation Thursday and Friday, Jan. 28-29, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at MUN Botanical Garden, 306 Mount Scio Rd., St. John's.
