Education Minister Darin King announced an additional $9.7 million for Memorial University in St. John's and at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College in Corner Brook this morning.
King said the money isn't from the province's upcoming budget, but from the 2009 pot.
Most of the money, $7 million, will be used to upgrade science laboratories and buy state-of-the-art equipment for both campuses.
Another $457,000 will be used to buy a selective laser sintering system, which uses high-powered light beams to meld things such as plastic, ceramic and metal together.
The laser system will benefit both the engineering and ocean sciences programs at MUN, the Marine Institute and the College of the North Atlantic.
The campuses will also get $2 million for deferred maintenance projects and $300,000 to make MUN buildings more accessible for people with disabilities.
