Burin Peninsula District RCMP will be conducting checkpoints on the Burin Peninsula during the period of Feb. 12-14 to determine if drivers are under the influence of alcohol.
The Burin Peninsula District RCMP have recently conducted checkpoints in Mortier, Fox Cove, Marystown and Rushoon, resulting in two vehicles being impounded for 30 days due to the fact that the driver was operating the vehicle while having a suspended or prohibited driver's licence.
Vehicle owners are reminded that their vehicle will be impounded for 30 days, at the owner's expense, if their vehicle is being operated by a person with a suspended or prohibited licence.

They are required by law so that when those breaking the law. Otherwise those breaking the law can say that their Charter Rights were infringed upon. The law in Canada does more to protect those breaking the law rather than those who need proection

I would love to know why the RNC/RCMP always advertise check points before they happen. When they advertise, people will just avoid going that route, especially if they've been drinking! So what's the point?

By law, police forces in canada have to advertise road blocks or check points.

OMG from the Pearl you should know that this is a NL thing dictated by recent decisions in NL courts. Other provinces do not have the same requirements.
