An autopsy will be done on a man killed in the Princeton Pond area of the province after the heavy machinery he was driving slid into a boggy pond.
The 59-year-old driver, first believed to be 55, is from Cavendish. His name won't be released until the family can be notified.
Police are still investigating, but believe that the excavator lost footing at the side of the pond and slid in, trapping the man inside.
According to police, the man worked for a company contracted by Newfoundland Power to reinstall utility poles in the area after an ice storm damaged several in the area two weeks ago.
Occupational Health and Safety are also investigating the incident.

Organizations: Newfoundland Power

NL Power is a private, company, NL Hydro is a crown company, it is unreal how stunned some people are when it comes to their own province. My thoughts go out to th family of this poor man, I guess working alone policies were not in place for this sub contractor or NL Power

We do have the right to know the company but not the name of the person. Newfoundland Power being a Crown Corporation needs to be more transparent with our funds.

Newfoundland Power is not a crown corporation. It's a company owned by Fortis.
