Clarenville, NL -

The Clarenville Caribous and Conception Bay North CeeBee Stars finished the first period tied at 1.

Clarenville's Chris Mooney, on the powerplay, and the CeeBee's Matthew Thomey netted the periods only markers.

CeeBees' forward Brent Lynch nearly gave the six-time Avalon East champs a 2-1 lead when he broke past the Caribous' defence and fired the puck off the crossbar trying to go high, glove side on Jason Churchill.

The Caribous have a chance to go up 2-1 when they start the second frame on the powerplay. Tommy Snow was nabbed for hooking with 33 seconds to play.

Clarenville took a single penalty in the first, Brad Crann for high sticking. C.B.N. however had six minutes in the sin bin; Chad Parsons, for high sticking, Mike Dyke for Tripping and Snow.

Shots in the first period were 12-10 in favour of the CeeBees.
