Clarenville, NL -

The Telegram Herder Memorial Trophy Championship Series is going back to St. John's tied at one game apiece.

The CeeBees took a 3-1 lead into the final period of play and widened the margin on a goal by Chris Sparkes, from Mike Dyke, near the ten minute mark. The pair worked a give and go with Dyke passing to a Sparkes in front of the net who popped it past Churchill.

Freddy Diamond provided heroics the rest of the way as he stopped a game high 41 shots against, standing on his head at many points in the game.

Final shots against were 42-34 in favour of the Caribous, 25 coming in the second period alone.

Games 3, 4 and 5 of the Herder go Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Mile One Centre in St. John's.

Check tomorrow's edition of The Telegram for full coverage from the opening games of the Herder final. And check back next weekend as thetelegram.com provides period-by-period updates throughout Games 3, 4 and 5.

Congrats to the St. John' s triple A Fog Devils , a fine group of young guys for capturing the 2010 Major Midget Atlantics today. Nice to hear some local high school'ers are the best in Atlantic Canada. I am sure the telegram will have this displayed properly in tomorrows paper....right?!?
