The Clarenville Caribous have taken a 2-1 series lead in the Telegram Herder Memorial Trophy Championship Series following a 5-4 win over the Conception Bay North CeeBee Stars in Game 3 tonight at Mile One Centre in St. John's.

Down 4-3 at the start of the third, CeeBees' captain Mark Thomey scored his second of the night to draw his team even with six minutes left in regulation. Less than three minutes later, a wide shot from the 'Bous' Andrew Pearcey rebounded off the end boards behind Freddy Diamond and directly onto the stick of Chris Mooney who potted the game winner.

The CeeBees then found themselves in penalty trouble with five men in the box to end the game, including a pair of 10 minute misconducts to Shane Gamberg and Mark Tobin.

Other scorers for C.B.N. were Tobin and Paul Brown on a second period penalty shot.

Clarenville also had goals from Ryan Penney, Travis Chapman, Darren Colbourne, and Derrick Kent.

Jason Churchill turned away 40 shots in the win while Freddy Diamond faced 35 in a losing effort.

Game 4 goes tomorrow night, 7:30, again at Mile One Centre.
