Based on the firepower the Clarenville Caribous brought to the ice in winning last year's Herder provincial senior hockey final the Conception Bay North CeeBees, there were more than a few fans wondering whether this spring's Herder rematch between the two teams would even get to a Game 5.
But Freddy Diamond and the CeeBees had their say last weekend, ensuring there will be no series sweep and guaranteeing three Herder games will be played this weekend at Mile One Centre, which is the CeeBees' home ice for the best-of-seven series.
The Caribous won Saturday's opener of the Telegram Herder Memorial Trophy Championship Series at the Clarenville Events Centre, coming away with a 4-2 decision, but the CeeBees - who gave up an average of almost seven goals a contest (34 in total) in losing last year's Herder final in five games - got a 41-save performance from Diamond in Game 2 on Sunday as they won 4-1.
Game 3 of is set for Friday night at 7:30, with Games 4 and 5 to follow on Saturday, also at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Tickets for the Herder games at Mile One went on sale March 4, and fans without those treasures could be out of luck. As of late Wednesday night, the three contests were all but sold out, according to the Mile One website.
