St. Lawrence defeat Feildians, tie with Mount Pearl

St. Lawrence Laurentians, dethroned as provincial men's soccer champions last year by Holy Cross, remain unbeaten through the early going of the 2010 Molson Challenge Cup Soccer League season following a win and tie in St. John's and Mount Pearl over the weekend.

Sunday, the Labatt Laurentians shaded Feildian/Ernst and Young Orenda 2-1 following a scoreless draw with Mount Pearl/That Pro Look/Molson Saturday.

Elsewhere Sunday, Rugged Edge Western United FC down CB Auto Strikers FC 2-1, while on Saturday, Feildians and Holy Cross/Kirby Group tied 1-1 and the Strikers downed Western 1-0.

SUNDAY

St. Lawrence 2, Feildians 1

At King George V Park, Clinton Edwards had both St. Lawrence goals a minute apart (75 and 76 minutes) after Keegan Ezekiel opened scoring at 11 minutes.

Western 2, C.B.S. 1 (Sunday)

At Wellington Street Complex in Corner Brook, Brandon Ezekiel (48) and Patrick Fewer (62) scored for the winners. Matt Foote replied for the visitors (12).

SATURDAY

St. Lawrence, 0 Mount Pearl 0 Feildians 1, Holy Cross 1 C.B.S. 1, Western 0

At Corner Brook, Foote's goal five minutes into the game stood as the winner as the Challenge Cup loop's newest team recorded its first win. Chris Hayes provided shutout goalkeeping.

The next game on the schedule goes 8:45 Wednesday night in Mount Pearl when Holy Cross visits.
