Three handball players, three runners and a gymnast make up the list of finalists for May's St. John's Coors-Molson athlete of the month awards.
The male and female winners will be named during a noon-hour luncheon today at Yuk Yuk's on Kenmount Road.
Male nominees for May include handballers Peter Walsh and Wayne Amminson and road-racer Thomas Martin.
Filling out the female list are gymnast Erica Devereaux, runners Allison Hobeika and Kate Vaughan, and handballer Leslie Amminson.
Their are four female finalists as the result of a voting tie.

Thomas Martin
The St. Mary's native channelled a little of his hometown's Hall of Fame runner Harold St. Croix's spirit as he captured top spot in the Athletics North-East's Not So Hilly Half-Marathon, one of 17 races in the Newfoundland and Labrador Athletics Association's Toyota Plaza Road Running Series. Martin, a Memorial University varsity cross-country runner, completed the 21-kilometre course in one hour, 24 minutes and 45 seconds.
Peter Walsh
The 14-year-old from St. John's won his second straight boys' 15-and-under national title at the Canadian four-wall handball championships, held in Burlington, Ont.
Walsh defeated clubmate Colin Pumphrey 2-0 (21-16, 21-18) to claim his title. He and Pumphrey teamed up in the men's C doubles division and made it all the way to the semifinal round before losing to Bernard and Etienne Pellissier of Quebec 2-1 (20-20, 21-17, 4-11) in a tie-breaker.
Wayne Amminson
Besides coaching the provincial handball team at the nationals in Burlington, Amminson also took top spot in the super masters singles division. While his win came as the result of his competitor defaulting, Amminson did defeat Toronto's Stan Fromstein 2-0 (21-16, 21-11) in the quarter-finals before clinching his berth in the championship with a 2-0 (21-14, 21-11) semifinal win over Ivan Elliot of Fort Erie, Ont.

Leslie Amminson
Amminson did one better than her 2009 showing by capturing two national under-15 handball titles at the Canadian championships in Burlington, Ont.
Amminson claimed the girls' singles crown with a win over Calgary's Myro Koval 2-0 (21-3, 21-9) and went on to team up with Zoe Walsh to win the girls doubles division by beating Kylie Flynn and Jessica Glier of Regina 2-0 (21-9, 21-14).
Allison Hobeika
The 2000 and 2001 Tely 10 women's winner finished first among 706 women competitors in the Mississauga, Ont., Marathon. Hobeika, who was competing at the distance for the first time in three years, ran the 42-kilometre course in 3:08.43.
Erica Devereaux
At the Eastern Canadian championships in Mississauga, the Level 5 Cygnus gymnast won bronze for her floor routine, the provincial team's only individual apparatus medal.
The 16-year-old Devereaux scored 13.3 in the floor and finished eighth out of 18 competitors.
Kate Vaughan
The Athletics North-East club runner easily won the women's division in the popular Nautilus Harbourfront 10-km race in St. John's.
Vaughan's time of 35:26 was not only first among women competitors, but second overall to male winner Colin Fewer.
