Three local firms up for Ernst & Young awards

Three Newfoundland-based businesses - a century-old car dealership, a software company and a security firm - have been named Atlantic finalists for Ernst & Young's entrepreneur of the year award.
Bert and Jonathan Hickman of Hickman Motors are up for the award in the business-to-consumer Products and Services Category.
Andrew Ayre of Other Ocean Interactive, a St. John's-based software company, is a finalist in the media and entertainment division.
Lyndon Quinton of Shannahan's Investigation and Security Limited, a Mount Pearl security firm, is vying for the award in the business-to-business products and services category.
According to a release, Joyce Hoeven, Atlantic director of the awards, said the nominees have "turned their dreams into thriving businesses" and helped build prosperous communities.
"These are the people who can continue to drive growth beyond the Atlantic region into other Canadian markets and ones throughout the world," she said.
Winners will be named in each category at a banquet in Halifax Oct. 19.
An overall Atlantic winner will represent in the region in competition for the national award, which will be announced at a banquet in Toronto Nov. 17.
