Clarenville will play host to its first ever Molson Challenge Cup soccer match Saturday.
The match between the St. Lawrence Laurentians and the St. John's Under-18s gets underway at 2:30 p.m. at the soccer field behind Clarenville high school.
Opening ceremonies are set for 2 p.m. The ticket price is $3 for adults. Children under 12 accompanied by a parent will be admitted free.
"I am very excited that this is the first time the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association will play a Challenge Cup league game at a neutral site and hopefully, this is only the beginning," said NLSA senior men's vice-president Gord Dunphy.
"There is no better way of promoting the sport than exposing the game at its highest level into regions of our province that have both a strong soccer association and good minor registration numbers. The town of Clarenville has both."
Earle Pike, who is originally from St. Lawrence, is president of the Clarenville Area Soccer Association.
