I believe that soccer is governed by NLSA for those that have trouble with this it is Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association not GDSA Gord Dunphy Soccer Association. Mr. Dunphy's comments in this article are his opinion but he did not include that he threatened suspensions to all players coaches and association members, he did not mention the fact that Western requested to have the last two games rescheduled in which he refussed within minutes of request without asking the two teams or anyone else from NLSA or GDSA . Last year Western played a shortened season which everyone seemed to be fine with but were forced to play full season this year pushed by Mr. Dunphy and we can go on and on but to put it in a nut shell Western forefited two games they did not fold as a team and do not have to apply to the GDSA to play Challenge Cup next year---Soccer in NL can not be governed by lose cannons

Mr. dunphy in my mind was right with his comments. This is a team that even when they did travel for the last 3 or 4 weeks of the season only brought 12-13 players, most who were not on the team at the start of the year.. they were there because the regular payers QUIT after they were getting punished every game. If Mt Pearl, St Lawrence or Holy Cross knew their position in the league was sealed and bailed on the Corner Brook trip these same people defending CB would be bashing these teams. CB should not be in the league in my humble opinion. There was nop benefit this season by having teams travel there to win 2 games by 5 and 6 goals and play against a team that would struggle in intermediate. Prove your commited before you get a permanemt spot in a good and competative league. I dont think this team will be missed in the CCup

The Western Challenge Cup Soccer team not only embarrassed themselves, they embarrassed our entire soccer program and all the residents of Corner Brook. Shame on you guys ! Jeff T.

I can't believe the Telegram actually put this article in the paper! This is Gord Dunphy's opinion, and it was an email sent to him, not to be in the newspaper. Does this mean anyone can put there opinions in the paper at anytime? I think not! The Telegram should never had put that email in the paper. There was a few reasons why they couldn't get enough players to go ei: u-18 provincals, a wedding and injuries, Should the team get to play next year? I would say yes, they are a young team with some promise and the organization are working extremely hard to to have a challenge cup team on the west coast. I don't think the NLSA really want the team in the leaque anyways,or Dunphy it's to inconvient for the ST.John's team and St.Lawrence. A few years ago Challenge Cup was dieing, Gord should be thankful Corner Brook wants to be apart of the league. After all, It's not a professional soccer league

Tis a pity when a team has to forefit games, as we all love the beautiful game but maybe the result of last games played, considering the caliber of the other teams, might be more detramental to young players if CB was hammered again. At least CB tried, having to travel such a great distance,( I am not talking about a european country where there maybe 20 or 30 pro teams) and the country only about as big as Nfld. England has 92, but recriminations should be muted, at least the young men tried. How about an "E" for effort' or "OLE" or "BRAVO", or as they say "get-er-done".

Gord Dunphy you are a clown, you're the worst thing to happen to Newfoundland soccer.

I agree with Mr Dunphy..Seems Corner Brook always get more than enough when it comes to benefits from NLSA..from minor to senior levels..Time for CB to anti up. If you sign on play for the duration or face fines. Yep they should not be allowed to re-enter the league without some kind of assurance like $5000 up front which is small change for a serious team inn challenge cup....Just my point of view..Good job Dunphy...

I can't make the playoffs, so I'm taking my ball, and staying home!!! If I had made the playoffs, I would have found a way, in my life/work schedule, to compete for the Championship at the Challange Cup weekend. That is all that needs to be said!!! Period!!! Instead of taking the highroad and seeing it through to the end, the low road ,which you have chosen ,will unfortunately, effect young soccer players from that area , for years to come. Sad!!

You must have some very SICK fans if they look forward to watching games with scores of (9-0) & (7-0). I would like to question your motives if you want to see that kind of results. especially when you already know what the outcome will be. Lets try again next year. By the way tell me what incentive your players would have to travel to Corner Brook if they knew they would be out scored like that. Have a nice day Mr. Dunphy.

The players should all be suspended for two years and the Association fined $2000.00

Now, now Gord--you might have to eat those words. As vp of the NLSA you should be a bit more reserved in your comments regarding teams in the league. I am in no way involved with the Corner Brook soccer, I actually live about 7 hrs from there, but I think your comments in this story will come back to haunt you and will more than likely turn any players from Corner Brook from ever wanting to play in the Challenge Cup again....too bad really.

Utterly ridiculous........finish the season. I wouldn't let them back in the league ever again. What about the die hard fans who live and die for soccer every weekend? I can just imagine if the she was on the other foot, corner brook has great sports fans, they'd be devastated like we are.
