Sea-Hawks soccer teams play final home games today, Sunday

Memorial University’s women’s soccer team (5-22) will be looking to improve its playoff hopes with wins today and Sunday against the Dalhousie Tigers (6-2-1) in the Lady Hawks’ final home games this season.

Today’s Atlantic University Sport (AUS) game kicks off at 3 p.m. and Sunday’s at 11 a.m. at King George V Field.

The AUS women’s soccer standings are logjammed at the top with two points separating the top five teams in the league.

Memorial is currently in a twoway tie with Acadia for fourth place, while Dalhousie, Cape Breton and Moncton are all tied for first place. The top five teams will make the playoffs, and AUS Championship host team Mount Allison will earn an automatic bid.

Meanwhile, in men’s soccer, the Dalhousie Tigers (4-3-2) will take on the Sea-Hawks (1-7-1) 5:15 today and 1:15 p.m. Sunday at King George V.

There will be plenty of special events happening in conjunction with the Sea-Hawks’ final home soccer games. Today, Memorial University students, alumni, faculty and staff as well as children under 12 will get free admission. The festivities kick off 2 p.m. at King George the V Park with a pregame party featuring The Rolling Kings with other special events happening throughout the day.

Sunday is the annual Senior Day where fifth-year Sea-Hawk Lauren Windsor will be recognized for her contribution to the soccer program. It will also be the Go Pink game. The Sea-Hawks have gathered pledges for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and will dedicate the game to someone in their lives who has been affected by cancer. MUN BASKETBALL The Memorial women’s basketball team will compete at the Redbird Classic at McGill University in Montreal this weekend. The team will participate in three preseason CIS games.

Memorial was scheduled to start the tournament against the host McGill Martlets Friday night.

At 1 p.m. this afternoon, Memorial will match up against Western and on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. the Sea-Hawks will play their final game against the University of Toronto.

All games will be played at Love Competition Hall.

The Sea-Hawks men’s basketball team will play four games in four days over the weekend as they travel to Ontario to play in a single exhibition game against the University of Toronto before heading to Waterloo to participate in the 46th Annual Naismith Classic.

Memorial was scheduled to tip off the tournament against Laurier Friday evening. They will follow that up with a game against the host, Waterloo at 8 p.m. today. The Sea-Hawks will close out the tournament 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon against the Brock Badgers.
