A trio of 2013 Canada Games players have committed to Memorial University Sea-Hawks women’s soccer team.
Emily Bailey, Teri Murphy and Melissa Reid will join the Sea-Hawks in the fall and that’s good news for soccer coach Walt Mavin.
Mavin called the signings, “a big win for us.”
“I expect all three players to make an immediate impact on our team in September,” said Mavin.
Bailey is a striker who will graduate from Mount Pearl Senior High. She will pursue her Commerce degree at Memorial’s Faculty of Business. Her presence up front brings added depth and a scoring touch.
Murphy, of O’Donel High School in Mount Pearl, brings versatility that could find her at any position on the field. Coach Mavin sees Murphy excelling as an attacking middle or on the wing. Relying on her strength and fitness, Murphy also brings a consistent scoring touch. Murphy will focus on general studies in the fall.
Reid, who will graduate from Gonzaga High School in St. John’s, will pursue a degree in psychology while patrolling the defense as the team’s new centre back. The addition of Reid is important as the Sea-Hawks expect to replace team captain Maria Oliver who will graduate from Memorial this spring.
