Ryan Brockerville of Marystown ran, hurdled and splashed his way to a
second-place finish in the men's 3,000-metre steeplechase at the
Canada Summer Games in Charlottetown. P.E.I. on Thursday,giving
Newfoundland and Labrador its first medal of the second week of the
Games and third of the overall competition.
The silver medal goes along with bronze medals won by the men's rugby
team and women's fours rowing team during the Games' first half.
The 20-year-old Brockerville, who attends Simon Fraser University and
is a member of that Burnaby, B.C., school's track and cross-counntry
teams, is in another Games on final Friday as one of the top 12
qualifiers in the men's 1,500 metres. He'll be joined by another
Newfoundlander -- Patrick O'Grady of St. John's -- in that race.
