TSN reported Thursday that the Toronto Maple Leafs have shown an interest in the big winger from St. John's. Clowe scored 22 goals and 52 points for the Sharks last season. But the Leafs, TSN says, are not willing to part with a first-round pick for Clowe.

TSN reported Thursday that the Toronto Maple Leafs have shown an interest in the big winger from St. John's. Clowe scored 22 goals and 52 points for the Sharks last season. But the Leafs, TSN says, are not willing to part with a first-round pick for Clowe.

Leafs' GM Brian Burke ran the Anaheim Ducks before taking on the Toronto job. While in Anaheim, Burke saw Clowe on a regular basis.

TSN says the Philadelphia Flyers are also kicking the tires regarding Clowe, but the Sharks are believed to be asking for either Claude Giroux or Scott Hartnell, and the Flyers are not willing to part with either one of those forwards.

ESPN.com is also reporting the Sharks are dangling Clowe.

Clowe made $1.6 million last season.

Clowe isn't the only restricted free agents among the Newfoundlanders playing in the NHL. The Los Angeles Kings' Teddy Purcell and Calgary Flames defenceman Adam Pardy are looking for new contracts.

Montreal should grab him. Just the power forward we need. And one of the top in the league in that regard.
