The new Holiday Inn Express and Suites, on the doorstep of the St. John’s International Airport, is open.
Found at 5 Navigator Ave. — just off World Parkway airport access road — the hotel is owned by MP Limited Partnership and is managed by URGO Hotels Canada, under the Holiday Inn Express brand of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).
Regional vice-president of IHG Canada, Jonathan Lund, told The Telegram he is not scared by the current economic conditions, anticipating a solid first year serving both business travellers and tourists.
“The St. John’s market has been so good for so long,” he said. “While there has been some change in the economy in oil, there is some big demand being generated in St. John’s.”
He noted the anticipated opening of the expanded St. John’s Convention Centre, the benefit of the current exchange rate in helping to draw in U.S. visitors and the new landing system at St. John’s International Airport.
The city’s newest hotel offers free Wi-Fi, airport shuttle, breakfast bar, indoor pool, fitness and business centres. The building includes 120 rooms and 1,800 square feet of meeting space for gatherings of up to 115 people.
“Guests will know they are in for an enjoyable stay the moment they arrive at the airport and see the recognizable Holiday Inn Express sign,” said hotel general manager, Greg Ivany, in a statement. “We look forward to providing our guests with the unmatched comfort and convenience that comes with staying at a Holiday Inn Express hotel.”
This is the second Holiday Inn in St. John’s, after the Holiday Inn hotel at 180 Portugal Cove Rd.
