The Galway development got a little bit greener on Tuesday after a fourth tractor-trailer load of trees were brought in for planting.

So far, almost 600 trees will accent the neighbourhood in the development, which is headed by Dewcor president and former premier Danny Williams.

In a release, Williams says green space is going to be an important feature of the Galway development.

“We have worked very hard to preserve and add to the natural setting, and our whole team is extremely proud of this new addition to the city,” read the release.

The development will see two trees on every home lot, landscaped boulevards and medians, with all new trees to try and combat storm water runoff.

The street lighting in the development will be all using LED. So far, more than 150 acres of protected wetlands are contained in the South Brook Valley area of the development.

On hand for Tuesday’s announcement were Brian Mercer, municipal arborist, John Drover, chair of the city of St. John’s environmental Advisory Committee, Bruce Roberts of TreeCanada, and Andy Carew, project manager with Dewcor.
