BURIN, NL— There was music, food, laughter and even a few dances as Extreme Pita in Burin hosted its annual autism awareness event.

Now in its third year, the event, which in the past has been held on April 2 in conjunction with World Autism Day, was held on April 29.

From 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. that evening, $1 from the sale of every pita, flat bake, salad, entrée or order of Ziggy Peelgood’s Famous French Fries was donated to the Burin Peninsula Parent Autism Group.

April Pitcher, owner of Extreme Pita’s Burin location, said she was pleased with the support from the public.

“I was very pleased,” she said.

Pitcher also commended the great line-up of entertainment for the event.

“What great supporters I have this year, the Pittman's, Pearce choir, (Burin Peninsula) Youth Choir, Ben Rogers, Sidney Hillier, the Jackmans, Riley Farrell, Jordie Power and Cassie Manning.”

Pitcher told The Southern Gazette early Monday that at last count the event had raised over $6,000 for the local support group.

“I have more coming in,” she added.
