Even before its Newfoundland growing facility is completed and operational, Corner Brook-based BeeHigh Vital Elements Inc. (BeeHighVE) has already secured permission to expand.
This week, the company announced it has signed an agreement with New Brunswick’s Madawaska Maliseet First Nation (FN) Band to expand on its reserve.
The band has also purchased an ownership stake in the company.
“BeeHighVE is excited to be expanding and in partnership with the Madawaska Maliseet First Nation, building a second site on the Reserve in the province of New Brunswick,” founder and president Rita Hall stated in a news release.
“The company is in the process of finishing an application for this expansion under the (Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations) and will begin construction on the new facility in New Brunswick once the application is submitted to Health Canada.”
The First Nation is located near Edmundston, N.B., off the Trans-Canada Highway and shares borders with Quebec and the United States. It is one of a few reserves in Canada to have formal agreements in place with non-Aboriginal businesses that have successfully established a foothold on the reserve.
As for the Corner Brook facility, construction is nearing completion, expansion plans are in the works and BeeHighVE is exploring the possibility of a retail outlet on site from which to sell its product.
