A former provincial government official has been appointed as the new president and CEO of Springboard Atlantic.

Daryl Genge will take on the position as of Dec. 1, replacing the outgoing Chris Mathis who had been in the role since 2011.

Prior to his hiring, Genge worked as both the assistant deputy minister and acting deputy minister in the former provincial department of business, tourism, culture and rural development.

Prior to his time in government, Genge was the founding director of MUN's Atlantic Canada Venture Gateway and sat on committees and boards including the two advisory boards for venture capital funds.

“Daryl is a strong leader, and his understanding of academia, industry and the public sector will be a significant asset to Springboard going forward,” board chair Brian Lowe stated in a release.

Springboard is a commercialization and industry liaison network that connects skilled professionals in academia with industry contacts to establish new collaborations and support research commercialization.

Genge stated that he’s looking forward to making an impact on the region’s future.

“Atlantic Canada is rapidly developing a reputation as one of the country’s leading innovation hubs,” he stated in the release. “With such a powerful network of universities and colleges, and strong relationships with government, industry and our entrepreneurial community, we have unparalleled talent and resources to turn great ideas into commercial success.”
