The St. John’s-based company’s robotics as a service business model also earned it a spot among the Top 17 technology disruptors in the marine tech industry.

“It’s an absolute honour to receive this type of recognition as it represents an important validation of the hard work by the extraordinary team at Kraken,” Kraken president and CEO Karl Kenny stated in a release.

“We want to share it with our investors, our customers and all our supporters as further testament to Kraken's objective of becoming a leader in the underwater robotics industry.”

Kraken is currently using its sonar and submarine robotics technology to assist in a mission to locate and recover nine prototypes of the Avro Arrow plane that were lost in Lake Ontario during testing in the 1950s.

While the expedition hasn’t resulted in any artifacts beings retrieved just yet, Kraken sonar was able to capture images of what is believed to be The Velvet Glove, a missile that was part of the Avro program and also tested over the waters of Lake Ontario.
