Regular patrons of the Needs on Brookfield Road in the city’s west end will need to find a new place to check their lotto tickets this Sunday morning.
When the store locks up on Saturday, it will do so permanently.
“It’s never an easy decision to close a store, particularly with the impact it has on customers and staff,” a spokesperson for Sobeys, Needs’ parent company, wrote in an email.
“In this instance, the lease is expiring and due to various operational reasons, we decided not to renew the lease.”
It’s the second Needs location in the metro region to close in less than a year. The Lemarchant Road location shut down last June.
The spokesperson said there are no plans to shutter any more of the 33 locations throughout the province and that no new franchises are in the works.
