For the first time in the history of the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR), a Newfoundlander has been elected as the chair of the board.

Neil Coombs, partner and principal consultant for Higher Talent Inc., has served four years on the board before.

“I have had the privilege of working with exceptional business leaders from across the country,” he stated in a news release. “To continue in a leadership position with the organization is a significant responsibility — one that I am very excited about.”

Coombs, who has a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a focus in Human Resources Management and Labour Relations from Memorial University of Newfoundland, has previously served on other advisory boards in the province.

Coombs stated that it’s an exciting time to work in the HR field.

“From a global perspective, CPHR has positioned Canada as international leaders in our field. I am looking forward to carrying on the excellent work of our past Chairs, and ensuring that Canadians continue to be leaders and innovators in human resources practices.”
