Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation Minister Christopher Mitchelmore (centre) and Avalon MP Ken McDonald (right) visited the Martak Canada Ltd. facility on McNamara Drive in Paradise Wednesday afternoon.

They were there to learn about the company and its operations, which are geared toward the cold-water shrimp peeling industry.

Martak provides services and equipment maintenance for specialized peeling and after-peeling machinery. Mitchelmore and McDonald chatted with Martak’s project manager and mechanical engineer, Landon Fisher, about how they work with shrimp plant processing rollers, such as the ones in the photo, that the company was providing maintenance on for local shrimp processing plants.

Martak’s latest niche involves using the latest in rubber roller manufacturing technology, including specialized equipment for stripping rollers, rubber recoating and hot-bonding vulcanization.
