100 Women Who Care St. John's has selected the St. John's Status of Women/Women's Centre as the fifth area charity to receive funds raised at a meeting held May 27 at the Capital Hotel.

100 Women Who Care St. John's (100WWC) is a collective of women who are dedicated to supporting the work of local charitable organizations in St. John's and surrounding areas by embracing the power of women who want to make a difference.

Meeting four times a year, the collective nominate and vote on worthy charities and each member writes a $100 cheque to the selected charity.

At 100 Women Who Care St. John's fifth meeting, more than 70 women attended and eight local worthy charities were nominated by the membership.

Of these, three charities were drawn at random by members: St John's Status of Women/Women Centre, Team Broken Earth and Avalon Dragons.

A member who nominated each of the three charities spoke to the group about why their nominated charity should be supported after a secret ballot vote by members; St. John's Status of Women/Women's Centre was selected as the charity to receive the group's fourth donation.
